Keeping Energy Sustainability, PHE Continues to Boost Upstream Oil and Gas Exploration

Jakarta, Timerilis.com – PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) continues to carry out massive and aggressive exploration efforts as a commitment to contribute to the achievement of national energy security.

PHE Exploration Director Muharram Jaya Panguriseng said that exploration has a crucial role in maintaining the sustainability of the national upstream oil and gas industry. Through the discovery of new resources with significant quantities that will become a source of national energy in the future.

“In carrying out exploration performance, PHE has three key exploration strategies. One of which is “Sustain”, managing existing working area (WK) assets, where exploration contributions are needed to maintain and increase oil and gas production,” said Muharram, Monday (10/4/2023).

The second strategy is Growth, PHE is looking for exploration potential in new working areas by revealing new resource reserves that can support the company’s growth in the long term.

The third strategy is to implement partnerships to share technology, risks, and costs.

Throughout 2022, PHE completed 17 exploration wells, 11 exploration well discoveries of which 3 were categorized as big fish, and an additional 2C (RR) resource reserves of 345 MMBOE.

In addition, in the first quarter of 2023, the drilling of 3 exploration wells was also completed and validated 2C (RR) resources categorized as big fish from the NSO R2 discovery well of 53 MMBOE.

PHE has also completed 2,032 km of 2D seismic and 412 km2 of 3D seismic surveys to confirm the potential of hydrocarbon resources in potential areas within the Existing WK and open areas following the work contract commitment with the Government. In carrying out the seismic survey, PHE cooperates with one of the subsidiaries incorporated in Pertamina’s Upstream Subholding, PT Elnusa Tbk.

Elnusa Operations Director Charles Harianto Lumbantobing said Elnusa is a pioneer in supporting land, transition zone, and marine seismic survey activities in Indonesia since 51 years ago.

“Armed with competence and experience, Elnusa has proven itself in supporting various exploration activities of the Cooperation Contractor (KKKS), SKK Migas, and the government. The coverage area of the seismic survey that has been carried out is the largest in Indonesia. Elnusa continues to strive to provide the best data results in the world of seismic by starting to develop seismic data acquisition using Ocean Bottom Nodes (Nodal) and Vibro Seismic technology. Moreover, the discovery of oil and gas reserves will depend on the quality of the seismic data produced,” said Charles.

Using Nodal & Vibro Seismic will support richer seismic data acquisition results, very useful for getting a detailed and better picture of the subterranean structure and reservoir character.

Charles added, In 2022, Elnusa completed three land seismic survey projects including the 2D Vibroseis Sub Vulcanic Java project, the 3D Pulau Panjang & Sungai Buluh complex project, and the 3D Petapahan & 3D Hitam project. Meanwhile, in multizone, Elnusa has completed the Buton 2D seismic survey project,” Charles explained.

In early 2023, the implementation of the partnership strategy was reflected when PHE received a direct bidding auction for the Bunga and Peri Mahakam Working Areas (WK). With partners preceded by the implementation of a joint study which is expected to increase the company’s capabilities to keep growing. (Eva/Rd)
