Sony Pictures Movie Launches Postponed Due to SAG-AFTRA Strike

Jakarta, Timerilis.com – The release schedule of several movies from Sony Pictures has been postponed as a result of the SAG-AFTRA actors’ union strike that has been going on since July 14.

The animated film “Beyond the Spider-Verse”, which was originally scheduled for release on March 29, 2024, has been delayed and has not yet received a definite schedule. According to a report by IGN on Saturday (29/7), the voice actors who played roles in the film were not willing to complete the recording of the dialogue on time.

Sony Pictures is reportedly considering several release dates depending on how long the strike lasts.

In addition to “Beyond the Spider-Verse”, the movie “Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2” which originally premiered in Christmas 2023 was pushed back to March 2024, and “Kraven the Hunter” was also pushed back from October 2023 to August 30, 2024.

The premiere of “They Listen” and the rebooted version of “Karate Kid” were also postponed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Furthermore, the sequels to “Bad Boys” and “Venom” are currently scheduled for release in summer 2024.

The SAG-AFTRA strike and the WGA screenwriters union have had a major impact on the Hollywood film industry. In addition to the postponement of release dates, actors are also reluctant to participate in promoting their films.

The strike is not expected to end anytime soon. “Game of Thrones” author George R.R. Martin is among those who believe that the strike will be long and difficult.
