The Indonesian National Team Aims to Protect its Title at IESF Romania

Jakarta, Timerilis.com – The Indonesian national esports team is determined to protect the overall title in the 15th edition of the world championship, IESF World Esports Championships 2023, which will take place at the end of August in Iasi, Romania.

Indonesia emerged as the overall champion in the previous edition of the IESF Bali 14th World Esports Championship 2022 held in Merusaka, Nusa Dua, Bali, late last year.

“We continue to be optimistic about upholding the overall title, through additions. For example, we have more potential in Tekken 7 if Meat (Muhammad Adriyansyah Jusuf) manages to do his task, maybe we hope he can bring home the title,” said IESF 15th World Esports Championships National Team Coach, Richard Permana when contacted by ANTARA in Jakarta, Thursday.

At that time, the Red and White Squad, which played in seven games competed, won three golds from DOTA 2, eFootball, and Mobile Legends: Bang-Bang, and one bronze from the Women’s CS: GO number.

In this edition, the Indonesian esports team will play in five numbers, namely CS: GO, Mobile Legends: Bang-Bang (MLBB), DOTA 2, eFootball, and Tekken 7.

Richard is optimistic that his team can defend their title as the overall champion that will take place on August 24-September 4.

Due to the lack of Tekken 7 tournaments, Richard said he had sent his athletes to Thailand to take part in the event there as a training exercise. Muhammad Adriyansyah “Meat” Jusuf finished third in the event.

Best efforts were also made for the eFootball game number by holding a closed qualifier inviting all the best eFootball players and conducting repeated matches with various tournament simulations.

“One very consistent name came out, Akbar Paudie. We hope he can bring home another gold for us,” said Richard.

“For eFootball, Tekken, we bring in the best community friends to become sparring partners for athletes in national training,” he added.

Meanwhile, Mobile Legends: Bang-Bang has found its representative from the qualification results conducted some time ago. Currently, the national team MLBB Bigetron Alpha is also competing in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Indonesia.

The CS: GO national team made sure to qualify for IESF Romania 2023 after finishing second in the Group B standings of the Asia Pacific continental qualifiers in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in the middle of last month.

“For CS: GO, they are still doing their work, the last time they appeared in the Asian qualifiers, they finished in third place. Defeated by Uzbekistan and Mongolia,” Richard said.

DOTA 2 also faces challenges. Indonesian DOTA 2 players are mostly members of foreign esports teams so they’ve been busy and have different tournament schedules.

Therefore, according to Richard, a mixed-all-star team or a combination of the best players is the best chance to safeguard the title. (Eva/Rd)
